From our coordination experience

What we have seen arranging visits here (as of September 2026). Release windows and fees change — hospital charges apply.

  • Hand surgery has around 60 surgeons who treat only the hand and wrist, split into narrow sub-specialties.
  • International clinics open 7–8 days ahead. The hand-surgery international clinic opens 8 days ahead: day-8 slots release around 11:00, same-day slots around 06:00.
  • Registration: hand-surgery international clinic about ¥800–1,200; spine-surgery international clinic (Xinjiekou campus) about ¥800–1,000.
  • Specialists generally will not see a case without X-ray, CT or MRI — in person or remotely — so imaging comes first.
  • Surgery dates are set only by the operating surgeon after a face-to-face visit; there is no online referral to a named surgeon.

Before Your Visit

What to bring
  • Your original passport — registration is real-name
  • Previous records in their original language (we translate)
  • Original imaging files (DICOM), not screenshots
  • A current medication list with doses
  • Your insurance card and approval letter, if the insurer is paying
International insurance

Hospitals with an international department can often bill international insurers directly. It depends on your insurer and policy — most mainstream international plans are accepted. Your insurer usually has to approve the visit first, and your deductible and any excluded items remain yours. We check with the hospital before you travel.

Payment

Public hospitals charge before each test or consultation. Hospital fees are passed on at cost with the hospital's receipt; we take no commission from hospitals or doctors.

Emergencies

Outpatient and international clinics are not emergency services. In an emergency in China, call 120 or go straight to a hospital emergency department.

How China MedPass Helps (Typical Pathway)

  1. 1

    Case review

You share your records (existing imaging, lab results, a short problem summary) in their original language. We translate and summarise them and identify the right department and specialist.

  2. 2

    Hospital & specialist matching

We match you to the hospital and senior-attending-level specialist whose expertise actually fits your specific clinical question — not a generic outpatient slot.

  3. 3

    Appointment booking

We secure the appointment, send you a preparation pack covering documents, payment, what to bring, and confirm the bilingual escort schedule.

  4. 4

    On-site bilingual escort

Your local coordinator meets you at the hospital, handles registration and communication in Mandarin, attends the consultation with you, and makes sure nothing gets lost in translation.

  5. 5

    Report translation & DICOM collection

We deliver a structured English summary of the hospital's reports plus your DICOM imaging files by secure download, ready for your home doctor.

  6. 6

    Follow-up coordination

30-day follow-up window — we coordinate clarifications with the hospital, optional physician-to-physician calls, and any additional documentation your home team requests.

Frequently Asked Questions

Should I go to PKU Third or Jishuitan for my orthopaedic case?
Sports injuries (ACL, meniscus, shoulder labrum) → PKU Third. Complex trauma, joint replacement, hand surgery, paediatric ortho → Jishuitan. Both are top-tier; the right choice depends on the specific problem.
Can international patients access Jishuitan?
Yes. The International Department handles English documentation and senior-attending-level access; we provide bilingual escort throughout the case.
Can Jishuitan handle a re-do hip or knee replacement?
Yes — revision arthroplasty is one of their specialties. The revision joint replacement team handles cases referred from across China, and routinely sees international patients with failed primary replacements.
Will I get an English report?
Yes — structured English report on every imaging or consultation we coordinate, written to international musculoskeletal-radiology standards.
Can you collect my DICOM files?
Yes. MRI / CT DICOM imaging files are collected and delivered on USB or via secure download for your home orthopaedic team.
How much does coordination at Jishuitan cost?
Coordination from $250 for imaging; from $450 for a specialist consultation. Surgical fees are paid directly to the hospital and quoted separately based on the planned procedure.
What do international patients usually ask about Jishuitan?
Common questions concern fractures and complex trauma, hip and knee joint replacement (including revision), sports injuries such as ACL and meniscus tears, hand and spine surgery — patients ask whether surgery is needed, what implant or approach is likely, and expected recovery time. ChinaMedPass coordinates access and translation; the surgical decision and all clinical judgements rest with Jishuitan's licensed orthopaedic surgeons.
What records should I prepare for an orthopaedic review at Jishuitan?
Prepare your X-rays, CT and MRI as both written reports and original DICOM discs, plus any prior operative notes, implant details for revision cases, and recent blood results. Include a current medication list — noting anticoagulants or antiplatelets, which you should not stop without medical advice — and a dated timeline of the injury or symptoms. Acceptance and clinical decisions rest with the hospital.
What is the usual appointment pathway at Jishuitan?
A written specialist review of your records and DICOM is usually done first, often with no travel needed. If you then travel, an on-site consultation is arranged via the international department, with your passport used for registration; an English report and DICOM are provided afterwards. ChinaMedPass is not a hospital or medical provider; acceptance and all clinical decisions rest with the hospital.
